  • A Flexible Bond for Wood Flooring

     

    SF520 TREMBond Wood is a high-strength, flexible, single-component advanced polymer adhesive for surface bonding most wood flooring. It stays permanently elastic, so your floor can move naturally with the wood without the bond letting go.

    It's solvent-free and moisture-free, and it works with most underfloor heating systems, which makes it a solid choice for modern installations.

    Where to use:

     

    SF520 works over most common substrates:

    • Sand/cement screeds
    • Concrete
    • Calcium sulphate screeds

  • Preparation

    • All phases of installation should comply with BS 8201, BS 8203, CP 102 and any other local installation standards.
    • Make sure the subfloor is flat, clean, sound and dry, and free from anything that could hinder adhesion, such as paint, varnish, polish, old adhesive residue and plaster spots.
    • Existing wooden subfloors must have an intact base DPM.
    • Test the subfloor to British Standards using a properly calibrated and insulated hygrometer. A reading of 75% RH or less confirms it's dry enough. If it's higher, apply a Tremco surface membrane to suppress residual moisture.
    • Acclimatise the timber in the room where it'll be laid, following the flooring manufacturer's instructions.
    • Always leave an expansion gap around perimeters and columns so the wood can move naturally once bonded.

    Preparing the subfloor surface

    • Concrete: mechanically remove all surface treatments. Repair any deep indentations with a suitable Isocrete Cementitious Repair Mortar.
    • Calcium sulphate: lightly abrade to remove surface laitance, then prime before applying a Tremco smoothing compound.
    • Smoothing compounds: apply a suitable Tremco smoothing compound at a minimum thickness of 3mm.

    Very porous substrates: can be primed with CS150 Acrylic Primer.

    Application

    • On a smooth floor, spread the adhesive evenly using a triangular notched trowel cut 3mm deep x 6mm. Rough, textured floors may need a deeper notch, which will reduce your coverage.
    • Spread with a sweeping motion at a 60° angle.
      Place the wood into the adhesive while it's still wet.
    • Press firmly or gently tap the wood down to make sure you get good overall contact. Use heavy objects to hold the wood in place while it cures if needed.
    • The bonded wood can take foot traffic after 6 to 8 hours.
    • Leave for 48 hours before sanding or varnishing.
