  • One Adhesive for Vinyl & Rubber Flooring

     

    SF108 is a high-performance pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive for most rubber and vinyl floor coverings. It's designed for single stick bonding of rubber flooring, tiles and sheet to porous surfaces, and it also bonds PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings.

    It's solvent-free and non-flammable, so it's cleaner and safer to use than traditional rubber floor covering adhesives. It meets existing low VOC requirements too.

    What you get:

     

    • 5 litre or 15 litre bucket
    • Covers up to 35m² (5 litre) or 110m² (15 litre) on smooth-backed coverings, using a 1.5mm x 5mm notched trowel

     

    Where to use:

     

    Installation must comply with BS 8204, BS 8203 (Installation of Resilient Floor Coverings) or BS 5325 (Installation of Textile Floor Coverings), plus any supplementary specifications. Porous surfaces must be primed with CS150 Acrylic Primer first.

     

    Rubber flooring: SF108 is for rubber tiles or sheet up to 3mm thick. For anything thicker than 3mm, use SF600 or SF512 instead. Only use SF108 where the rubber flooring manufacturer approves it.

     

    If you're working over underfloor heating, it needs to be fully commissioned, then switched off 48 hours before and during installation. Bring it back on 48 hours after completion, gradually, following the commissioning schedule. Contact our technical team for a full specification.

  • Preparation

    • Site conditions must comply with CP 102, BS 8203, BS 5325 and any supplementary specifications.
    • Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from oil, grease, paint, dust and other contaminants.
    • Concrete and sand/cement screeds must be fully cured and free from laitance.
    • Direct-to-earth subfloors must have an efficient damp-proof membrane.
    • Prime porous surfaces with CS150 Acrylic Primer, applied by paint roller, and leave to dry.
    • Stir the adhesive thoroughly before use.

    Application

    Rubber flooring

    • Spread the adhesive evenly with a notched trowel: 1.5mm x 5mm for smooth-backed rubber, or 2.4mm x 4.75mm for heavy profile backings.
    • Immediately roll with a long-handled paint roller pre-wet with the adhesive, to smooth out the trowel marks.
    • Place the floor covering into the semi-wet adhesive and roll with a 68kg flooring roller. Roll a second time once the adhesive has dried.
    • On smooth, even subfloors, you can apply the adhesive directly with a paint roller, as long as you get a uniform coating at the correct coverage rate.


    PVC floor coverings

    • Spread the adhesive evenly with a 1.5mm x 5mm notched trowel.
    • Immediately roll with a long-handled paint roller wetted with the adhesive, to smooth out the serration marks. Leave the adhesive to dry until it turns clear.
    • On smooth, even subfloors, you can apply direct with a paint roller if you get a uniform coating.
    • Place the floor covering accurately in position and roll with a 68kg flooring roller in both directions.
    • On porous substrates, you can use the traditional method: spread with a 1.5mm x 5mm notched trowel and lay the flooring into the semi-wet adhesive.
    PVC wall cladding (positive pressure clean rooms)

    • Apply to clean, dry plaster or plasterboard.
    • Prime plastered walls with SF108 diluted 1:1 with clean water and leave to dry. On plastered ceilings, prime with a neat coat of SF108 and leave to dry.
    • Spread SF108 with a paint roller onto the prepared surfaces and leave to dry. It changes from white to translucent.
    • Carefully place the pre-fitted PVC cladding onto the dry adhesive and firm in. Roll from the centre outwards with a flooring-grade hand roller to exclude air. A second rolling is necessary.

    • Double stick bonding: some vinyls need extra support at the top edge and at pressure points. Apply SF115 to the back of the vinyl (about 150mm deep at the edge) and to the matching points on the wall. Leave it touch dry, then place onto the dry SF108 and firm in.

    Cleaning Guide

    • Before the adhesive hardens, use warm water to remove any surplus and clean your tools.
    • Once dry, adhesive needs a solvent-based, heavy-duty cleaner to remove.
